Prescreen Requirements

Monologues

TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES, 60-90 sec each

•ONE CONTEMPORARY MONOLOGUE (typically written after 1950) from a published play or by a professional writer

•ONE CLASSICAL MONOLOGUE (typically written before 1950) from a published play or by a professional writer

-Classical monologue should have heightened language (e.g., Shakespeare, Moliere, Marlowe, August Wilson, Tony Kushner, Suzan-Lori Parks, Mike Bartlett)

Material Selection

•Choose monologues that are age-appropriate (within 5-10 years of your actual age)

•Choose material that feels authentic to your culture, background, and lived experience

•Active monologues work best — real-time communication with an imaginary scene partner

•Avoid monologues that rely on extreme emotions or are purely story/remembrance

Wildcard / Special Skill (Optional)

OPTIONAL WILD CARD VIDEO, 60-90 sec

•Show your personality or share something about you

•Can be ANYTHING: a special skill, interesting story, passion speech, instrument you play, etc.

•Ideas: original composition, SNL-styled skit, hobby video, performing in another language, playing an instrument, a how-to video

Nwsa Merit Scholarship

•Awarded annually based on merit demonstrated through audition or portfolio review

•Applicable to tuition and fees at MDC (lower division) or UF (upper division)

•Awarded upon recommendation of division faculty

Additional Aid

•Future Ready Miami-Dade Scholarship covers tuition for Miami-Dade County residents

•MDC Presidential Scholars: merit-based, requires 3.50+ GPA, covers tuition plus stipends
