Training
•The BS General concentration uses the same broad nonperformance music core as Northwestern's BA Music but removes the foreign-language requirement. General students can distribute concentration coursework across music rather than committing to one specialized subfield.
•The 45-unit plan includes ten music electives and retains substantial room for science, technology, or another Northwestern discipline.
Performance & Productions
•Students work within a school supporting 17 major ensembles and more than 400 concerts and events annually, even though private lessons and a performance major are not built into this degree.
Degree Flexibility
•Northwestern identifies the BS as non-admitting, so it is an internal degree path rather than a separate freshman application choice. For current students, its defining advantage is the ability to combine broad music study with a quantitatively or scientifically oriented second interest.
