Audition Requirements

Repertoire

Prepare two contrasting selections that demonstrate your ability on your primary instrument or voice. Musical selections should be classical in nature, such as standard solo repertoire from the Oklahoma state contest solo list; comparable sonata or concerto movements are acceptable.

Singers should prepare an aria or art song; one foreign-language selection is preferable.

Sheet Music

Singers should bring sheet music. NSU can usually provide an accompanist with advance notice.

Application Logistics

Complete the NSU university application and register for the music audition through the department's audition-registration page.

Auditions are scheduled by appointment. Instrumentalists do not need piano accompaniment; singers can usually be provided an accompanist with advance notice.

Admission Pathway

Music placement follows the audition and is used to guide initial course placement.

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

Auditions serve as both admission to the music major and scholarship evaluation

Held in the Center for the Performing Arts on the Tahlequah campus

In-person on designated dates, or by appointment

Virtual and prerecorded video auditions can also be arranged

Schedule a private meeting or lesson with the NSU faculty member who teaches your instrument or voice before auditioning

Post-Enrollment

A short ear training and music theory placement test is administered after the audition

Used for course placement purposes and establishing benchmarks
