Audition Process
•Bullet: College admission is open; no audition or interview is required for initial college admission to the AFA Music pathway
•Bullet: After admission and orientation, incoming music majors contact the Music Department to schedule an audition for MUSC 1151 Applied Music and MUSC 1152 Performance Class
Audition Expectations
•Bullet: Applied Music auditions are on the student's principal instrument or voice
•Bullet: Vocal auditions include two contrasting selections, sight-reading, pitch matching, and diction assessment
•Bullet: Guitar and piano auditions include two contrasting selections, sight-reading, and scales
•Bullet: Instrumental auditions include two contrasting selections, etudes, exercises, or solo pieces
Post-Enrollment
•Bullet: New AFA Music candidates start with a Pre-Music Major DARS designation
•Bullet: The designation changes to Music Major after two semesters of Applied Music I, Performance Class, and a successful audition for Applied Music II
•Bullet: Continued Applied Music study requires jury exams and faculty permits
