Prescreen Requirements

Songs

MTCP Song Option C

•Prepare two contrasting songs, 60-90 seconds each

•Choose either MTCP Option A or MTCP Option B, whichever serves you best

Option A

•One song written before 1970 and one song written after 1970

•The second song should contrast the style of the first selection

Option B

•One musical theatre song from any time period

•One song of your choice from any time period and in any style that best suits you

Monologues

MTCP Monologue Option A

•One monologue, 60-90 sec

•From a published play or by a professional writer

•A professional writer is someone whose plays have been produced, but may not have been professionally published

Dance

MTCP Dance Option A

•Prepare one dance video, 60-90 seconds

•Show your best version of dancing or moving

•Include at least one turn, one jump, and one kick, or suitable rotation, elevation, and extension

Style & Format

•Choose the dance discipline you feel most confident in, such as jazz, ballet, tap, modern, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, or another style

•Recent show or concert video is allowed if you are clearly featured alone in the frame

•Self-choreographed solo video is allowed

Ballet

•One ballet video, 60-90 seconds recommended

•If submitted, include

-A brief series of plié, tendu, and grande battement

-Pirouettes en déhors to both sides

-One or more grand jeté across the floor

•Opportunity to show your personality or share something about yourself

•May be any media you want, such as a special skill, story, passion speech, or instrument

•Does not need a slate

Application Logistics

•$35 Acceptd fee for incoming Fall 2027 applicants; waivers available through Acceptd or by contacting Olivia Vescovi, ovescov1@naz.edu, for a coupon code

•Nazareth follows Musical Theatre Common Prescreen guidelines

•The prescreen can be submitted before the Nazareth application — Regular Decision (February 1) stays open after the January 15 prescreen deadline, and an audition scheduled after an application deadline only delays your notification

•Direct Admission students still must complete the prescreen/audition process for the program

•Visit the MTCP website for tips and resources

Transfer Pathway

Transfer applicants to BFA Musical Theatre complete the same required prescreen and audition. Students entering with an earned AA, AS, or AAS are ordinarily granted 60 transfer credits and junior standing, subject to the formal course-by-course evaluation and remaining degree requirements.

Audition Process

•Complete prescreen on Acceptd before signing up for an audition

•Prescreen deadline: January 15

•Those who pass will be invited to schedule a live audition

•If not admitted to Musical Theatre, you may not audition again for the same program

•On-campus auditions in Rochester, NY

•Off-campus auditions offered in New York, NY and Chicago, IL, plus select group auditions

•Virtual auditions available by request

Audition Expectations

•Begins with group dance call

•Followed by individual song/monologue sessions

•Includes brief interview with faculty and Q&A

•Students are accepted directly to programs — you will not hear from Nazareth until after audition is completed

Scholarship Info

•Performing arts scholarships up to $5,000 based on audition quality

•If selected, scholarship appears on financial aid award letter
