No audition is required for the initial application. The gateway audition is an internal program gate after enrollment; scholarship audition details, when listed, are separate from admission.Gateway source

Songs

Requirements

•Two Contrasting Vocal PIECES, performed from memory

•ONE PIECE displaying vocal quality — may be art song, folk song, musical theatre, sacred song, or opera aria

•ONE CONTRASTING PIECE in a different style — also performed from memory

Scales & Arpeggios

•Major scale ("do" to "do") followed by major arpeggio

•Sung unaccompanied on neutral syllables or solfege

Accompaniment

•Accompanist provided for in-person auditions — bring a copy of your music

•Online: live piano accompaniment preferred; recorded track acceptable

-No a cappella performances or self-accompaniment

•Rolling admissions with priority deadlines

•Declare Music major via online declaration form

Admission Pathway

•University application required plus successful instrument audition

•No separate program application form needed beyond university app

•Stage 1: Pass audition for entry into MUS 1710 Private Instruction I (required for all music majors)

•Stage 2: Pass Music Performance Audition upon completion of MUS 1720 Private Instruction II (formal admission to Performance major)

What's The Process

Audition Process

•All music majors must pass an instrument audition for entry into Private Instruction I

•Performance majors must also pass the Music Performance Audition after completing Private Instruction II for formal admission to the Performance major

Audition Expectations

•Held in January, February, and August at King Center on Auraria Campus

•Approximately 12 minutes in length

•Arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in — practice rooms available for warm-up

•Accompanist provided for voice auditions — bring a copy of your music

•Brief tonal recall exercises included

•Appropriate attire expected

•Accepted continuously

•Live piano accompaniment preferred; recorded track acceptable

•Results emailed within one week

Talent Scholarships

•Automatically considered through audition for private lessons

•Priority consideration for auditions before March 1

•Renewable for up to four years

NAMED SCHOLARSHIPS (Voice)

•Beverly Christiansen Fernald Endowed Scholarship: for voice performance majors who have passed the Voice Performance Audition (requires scholarship audition, min 12 credits, 2.5 GPA)

•Denver Lyric Opera Guild: for applied voice music majors (requires operatic aria scholarship audition, min 12 credits, 2.5 GPA)

•Application window: December 1 to March 1 via AcademicWorks
