Audition Requirements

Monologues

TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES, 2 min each max

ONE PROSE SPEECH from a play written after 2000
ONE VERSE SPEECH from a play written before 1800
-Shakespeare, Elizabethan, Jacobean, Ancient Greek, Roman, Restoration, or international equivalent
-Must be in poetic verse, not a modern prose adaptation

MATERIAL SELECTION

Must be from published plays — not poems, novels, films, or TV scripts
Character close to your own age
Performed in your own accent
You may choose a speech in any gender

Additional Materials

TWO CONTRASTING INSTRUMENTAL PIECES

Performed on any instruments of your choice (same or different)
Should reflect your technical capacity and current ability level
Combined length no longer than 4 minutes — make cuts if needed

Voice is NOT considered an instrument for this audition

SUBMISSION

Instrumental pieces are submitted online as a video
You will NOT bring your instrument to the in-person audition

APPLICATION PROCESS

Apply directly via Mountview's online portal
Applications open in early autumn each year
Early application strongly encouraged

ELIGIBILITY

Must be aged 18 or turn 18 within the first term
Must display high proficiency on at least one instrument
Formal music or academic qualifications are not essential
International students must demonstrate English proficiency via SELT

FUNDING

UK students may apply for Student Tuition Fee Loan (up to £6,350)

What's The Process

AUDITION FORMAT

In-person auditions at Mountview in Peckham, London and regional locations
Online first-round option available for international candidates and those with exceptional circumstances
You may be asked to perform speeches again as part of a redirection exercise

ONLINE AUDITION

Includes a Physical Storytelling exercise to film and submit (no longer than 2 min)
No right or wrong way — Mountview is interested in how you use your body to tell a story

IMPORTANT

Instrumental videos submitted online — no instrument required at in-person audition
