Audition Process
•Bullet: A diagnostic entrance examination and audition in Instrumental Studies are required
•Bullet: All students requesting an audition with the MSU Band Program must apply to Morgan State University before the audition
•Bullet: Audition dates are TBA throughout the year; contact the Morgan State University Bands office at 443.885.3087 or jorim.reid@morgan.edu to schedule your audition
•Bullet: Live auditions are held over Zoom or Google Meet; recorded auditions are also accepted
•Bullet: One audition can serve scholarship consideration, major or non-major placement, ensemble placement, and part placement
Audition Expectations
•Bullet: Perform all assigned excerpts and complete the full scale requirements for top consideration
•Bullet: Memorization is preferred, not required
•Bullet: Sight-reading may be required for ensemble placement and/or part placement; percussionists may be asked to sight-read on snare and mallets
•Bullet: Students auditioning for Jazz Ensemble also prepare the assigned jazz etudes or excerpts plus swing-style improvisation: Bb Blues (two 12-bar choruses at 128 bpm) and Rhythm Changes (one 32-bar chorus at 180 bpm)

•Bullet: An interview may be required for students seeking financial support
