•Footage must be recent — within past 6 months

•Optional second video: 2-3 min solo in different genre (tap, hip hop, ballet, flamenco, etc.)

•No gymnastic-style movements (aerials, backflips)

Dance

Live Audition Solo

•1 min solo in modern/contemporary genre (does not have to be same as prescreen)

•Wear shoes or socks in which solo was choreographed

•Identify choreographer or note if self-choreographed

•No gymnastic-style movements (aerials, backflips)

Application Logistics

•Submit the university application first; dance materials are uploaded through the Montclair application portal

•Partner-organization audition applicants are not required to submit a prescreen video

•Partner-audition applicants must still submit all other university application materials

•Register with both the partner organization and Montclair's dance portal so the audition result connects to the university application

Admission Pathway

•All BA Dance students enter as Studio Teaching

•Students may apply for Dance Education with P-12 Certification in sophomore year after completing education prerequisites

Transfer Pathway

Montclair says internal and external transfer students applying to the Dance division must register for an audition and submit a prescreen video. Depending on transferable credits, an admitted Studio Teaching transfer may enter as a freshman, sophomore, or junior.

Audition Process

•Prescreen videos reviewed to determine invitation to full audition

•Videos will not be reviewed until all materials are complete

Audition Expectations

•In-person: 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm, includes info session, contemporary class, group improvisation, solo performance, group interviews

•Virtual: 1:45 pm – 5:30 pm EST, includes info session, contemporary class, improvisation, group interviews

•Audition details and solo music link sent 3-5 days before audition date
