Audition Requirements

Songs

TWO CONTRASTING PIECES, 1-2 min excerpts each

•From the standard repertoire (no pop or original tunes)

Vocal Auditions

•Vocalists must be accompanied

Instrumental Auditions

•Percussionists: one snare drum exercise, plus at least 2 of 4 grooves on drum set (swing, funk, shuffle, Latin); include a marimba piece if applicable

•Guitarists: acoustic or undistorted electric

Enrollment

•Fall start only (courses offered in succession, not repeated between semesters)

•Students who cannot start in fall require extra semesters to complete the program

Applied Lessons

•12 one-hour lessons per semester for 4 semesters required

•Cost of lessons is not included in MCC tuition

Ensemble

•Students participate in a vocal or instrumental ensemble each semester

What's The Process

Audition Process

•All auditions must be received by August 10

Audition Expectations

•Live auditions held most Mondays, 4:00-5:30 PM (September-December, February-May)

•Video auditions accepted year-round

•After Memorial Day, only video auditions accepted

•Contact faculty to schedule a live audition

•Live and unedited video required

•State your name, title, and composer at the beginning of each piece

•Cell phone video quality preferred

•Upload via SUNY Ensemble dropbox (link provided on audition form)
