Audition Requirements

Songs

Voice Audition

•Two scales (2 octaves if possible)

•Chromatic scale from the bottom of your range to the top and back

•Selection of solo pieces from the following repertoire areas

•Classical: art songs and arias from the classical literature

•Jazz/Contemporary: any piece from the American Song Book (Gershwin, Porter, etc.)

Additional Materials

Repertoire List

•Instrumental applicants (strings, winds, brass, percussion, drum set) prepare two scales, 2 octaves if possible, plus a chromatic scale

•Classical instrumentalists prepare two solo pieces demonstrating contrasting styles and tempos

•A substantial etude or a single movement of a sonata or concerto may be used

•Repertoire list detail: jazz/contemporary instrumentalists prepare one up-tempo tune and one ballad

•Repertoire list detail: include one improvised chorus within the up-tempo tune

•Repertoire list detail: drum set applicants prepare a mid-tempo rock groove, 16 bars each of Swing 4/4 and 3/4, Bossa Nova, and Shuffle with sticks, plus 16 bars Swing 4/4 with brushes
