Repertoire
Voice
•Prepare two solos from memory; at least one must be in English
•Selections preferably from art song, aria, or musical theatre repertoire
•Both solos require piano accompaniment — a staff accompanist is provided
Brass, Woodwinds & Percussion
•Prepare contrasting passages that display tone quality and technique (solos and etudes used for District/State solo & ensemble contest or all-district/all-state auditions are encouraged)
•Major scales and sight-reading are also required
•Piano accompaniment is optional
•Percussionists should demonstrate snare drum, mallets, timpani, and drum set
Keyboard
•Pianists: minimum of two memorized solos of contrasting styles, plus scales, arpeggios, etudes, and sight-reading of two short pieces
•Organists: minimum of two (preferably memorized) solos of contrasting styles, plus manual and pedal studies and sight-reading of two short pieces and a hymn
Strings
•Two or more scales in three octaves (bass: two octaves) in keys of your choice
•Two contrasting solo pieces or movements of a concerto
•One etude of your choice
Sight-Reading
•The audition includes sight-reading and pitch retention to assess current ability and potential
Accompaniment
•A staff accompanist is provided for vocal auditions
