Monologues

ONE MONOLOGUE FROM A MODERN, PUBLISHED PLAY

•Must use a proven, published play; do not use your own material

•Choose a character you identify with that allows for vocal and emotional variety and movement

•Must be memorized

•Use standard stage English; avoid accents and dialects

•Avoid excessive strong language and profanity

•No chairs, props, sitting, or kneeling

Additional Materials

Slate (required)

•State your name and selections before performing

•Include character name, play title, and playwright

•Do not include a synopsis, character description, or discussion of themes

Audition Format

•Two contrasting selections, not to exceed 7 minutes total

•Choose selections that show your ability, range, and performing skills

•Dress professionally and comfortably

In-Person Audition

•Select an audition date via the audition form

•Department will confirm the date with you

•Audition time confirmed one week in advance

Video Audition

•Email auditions@mssu.edu to notify of intent to audition virtually

•Record on phone or computer with camera at eye level

•Upload to YouTube as unlisted

•Send the link to auditions@mssu.edu
