Monologues

Requirements

•Two Contemporary Monologues (written after 1990)

•Contrasting in style (one comedic, one dramatic)

•Not to exceed 45 seconds each

•Characters close to your own age

•Must be from published plays

-No films, musicals, self-written, stand-alone pieces, or speech team monologues

Performance Style

•Performed in natural speaking voice (no dialects)

•Action driven (speaking to/trying to affect or get something from your 'other')

What to Avoid

•No storytelling monologues, pieces detailing previous events, telephone calls, or pieces to 'crowd/audience'

•Do not use Christopher Durang, Neil Simon, or common monologue book pieces

Wildcard / Special Skill (Optional)

WILD CARD VIDEO, 60 SEC MAX

•Can be ANYTHING — special skill, interesting story, passion speech, instrument you play, etc.

•Purpose: "What do you want us to know about you?" and "What makes you unique?"

•No slate required for Wild Card submission

•Prescreens are reviewed in the order received

•Each audition date has a specific prescreen submission deadline

•Must first apply to and be accepted by Millikin University Office of Admission

Admission Pathway

•To also be considered for BFA Musical Theatre, follow the MT audition guidelines and include required song/dance materials

•Illinois residents are exempt from the prescreen process

•Illinois residents may contact Millikin to schedule an audition directly after admission

•Submit two contemporary monologues via GetAcceptd

•Prescreens reviewed in order received — invitations extended on rolling basis

Audition Expectations

•By invitation only after passing prescreen

•On-campus audition days run 8am–3:30pm with welcome session, tours, lunch with students, and Q&A

•Chicago auditions at Chicago Academy for the Arts — perform monologues then free to leave

•Virtual auditions via GetAcceptd AuditionRoom (15–30 minutes)

•All audition methods receive equal consideration

Decisions

•Decision letter approximately 2 weeks after audition

Scholarship Info

College of Fine Arts Scholarship

•All students accepted to a BFA program receive a CFA Scholarship

•Range: $1,000 - $5,000 annually

•Renewable each year while enrolled in the College of Fine Arts

•Stacks with Academic Merit Scholarship awarded upon admission

•No additional application required — awarded after audition
