Audition Process
•Complete four components: solo performance, vocal aural assessment, music theory evaluation, and degree-specific interview
•Be prepared in the interview to discuss career motivation, communication and performance skills, five- and ten-year goals, and previous experience
•Results are emailed within two weeks
Audition Expectations
•The Performance concentration uses a fully in-person audition
•Audition day begins promptly at 9:15 AM and concludes by 2:30 PM; professional attire is expected
•Prepare two contrasting works on your primary instrument or voice that demonstrate musical and technical mastery
•Major and/or chromatic scales may be requested of instrumentalists, and a short sight-reading exercise may be required
•Voice applicants must sing with live or prerecorded accompaniment; an accompanist is not provided
•For the vocal aural assessment, sing one of the two provided audition songs without accompaniment; the song may be transposed
•Echo single pitches and melodic sequences and sing pitches from major, minor, augmented, diminished, and dominant seventh triads
•The music theory evaluation is a diagnostic placement tool covering key signatures, scales, intervals, chords, and rhythm
•Applicants may place out of the first theory course by meeting the published threshold
