•Bullet: BM in Composition pairs a required performance prescreen/audition on the applicant's principal instrument with a dedicated portfolio review of 3-4 original scores, judged on compositional craft
•Bullet: Curriculum is designed for students pursuing a composing career or graduate study in composition, with access to varied composition communities at the Frost School
•Bullet: Program goals emphasize fluency in core compositional technique alongside understanding of the range of directions open to 21st-century composers
Professional Development
•Bullet: Students are expected to perform and realize their own music, not only notate it, over the course of the degree
•Bullet: Portfolio submissions (scores plus recording or MIDI links) are reviewed independently of the instrumental audition, so composition ability is judged on its own merits
Degree Flexibility
•Bullet: A Music Composition minor is also available for non-Composition majors who want to add compositional training to another Frost degree
