Training
•BM in Music Education with a required minor in Education leads to Florida Department of Education music-teaching certification, honored through reciprocity agreements with most other state education departments
•Curriculum builds performance ability on wind, string, and percussion instruments alongside vocal skills so graduates can lead a full K-12 music classroom, not only their principal instrument
•Admission to teacher candidacy requires passing the Florida General Knowledge Exam, completing TAL 305 and TAL 404 with a C or higher, and a background check through Miami-Dade Public Schools
Professional Development
•A supervised field-experience placement and full student-teaching internship are built into the degree plan ahead of graduation
•Music Education faculty interview every admitted-audition candidate on audition day (or via Zoom) to confirm readiness for the teaching sequence before enrollment
Degree Flexibility
•Music education emphasis-area elective credits let students build a specialization on top of the shared core teaching-and-methods sequence
