Repertoire List
•Woodwinds: memorized major scales; one solo work showing lyrical and technical ability (state senior-level Honors Band solo standard); accompaniment and memorization not required
•Brass: memorized major scales; a movement from a major solo work (Haydn, Hummel, Hindemith, Kennan, etc.) or a significant etude (Charlier, Rochut vocalise, etc.); accompaniment and memorization not required
•Percussion: all 12 memorized major scales; 26 memorized standard American snare rudiments (slow-fast-slow); two prepared solos on contrasting instruments from snare, mallets, drum set, or timpani
•Strings (violin, viola, cello, bass): one movement from a standard concerto or comparable work; one movement from an unaccompanied Bach sonata, partita, or suite; an etude or caprice
•Piano: two memorized pieces in contrasting styles from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary periods
•Guitar: an etude or standard solo piece demonstrating note-reading and chord proficiency; alternating exercises, ascending and descending slurs, and scales
Sight-Reading
•Demonstrate sight-reading proficiency on your instrument
Letters of recommendation (for scholarship consideration)
•Two recommendations from non-familial adults — ideally one addressing academic potential and one addressing musical talent — due in the music office no later than one week before your audition
