Program Recognition
•Bachelor of Science in Theater Arts (Course 21T) from one of the world's leading research institutions
•Housed in the Music and Theater Arts Section within MIT's School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences

Training
•Coursework in acting, performance studies, voice, movement, performance media, script analysis, playwriting, directing, design, and scenography
•Three foundational subjects chosen from Introduction to Acting, Physical Improvisation: Bodies in Motion, Fundamentals of Theater Design, Performance Media, Script Analysis, and Playwriting Fundamentals
•126-132 units in the major, with restricted electives planned as a coherent program in consultation with the major advisor
•Optional thesis is by application only: interested students write a proposal with the major advisor by the start of the second semester of junior year, and the Theater Arts Curriculum Committee returns its decision in April

Performance & Productions
•Studio, stage, and on-screen production practica are built into the major
•Center for Art, Science and Technology (CAST) Artist-in-Residence Program brings artists of international repute to campus to work with students in classes, seminars, workshops, and productions
Facilities
•Theater Arts occupies Building W97 at 345 Vassar Street, a warehouse conversion opened in 2017 that consolidated the program under one roof
•Two-story performance space seating 150-180 on movable seating, plus costume and scene design shops, rehearsal classrooms with sprung wooden floors, dressing rooms, a green room, and faculty research studios
•Killian Hall, a 140-seat space, hosts theater readings alongside solo and chamber music recitals
Degree Flexibility
•Joint degrees in Humanities and Engineering (Course 21E) or Humanities and Science (Course 21S) pair Theater Arts with an engineering or science field
•Double major application available through the department
