Program Recognition
•BM Music Education is part of MHU’s Teacher Education Program and prepares students for North Carolina Music K–12 teacher licensure (“A”).
Training
•The Choral emphasis centers voice as a principal applied instrument and develops musicianship through University Choir, Chamber Singers, Opera Workshop, lyric diction, and advanced choral conducting.
•The curriculum includes MUS 354 Advanced Choral Conducting, MUS 445 Choral Music Methods for grades 6–12, student-teaching coursework, and a senior solo recital before student teaching.
•Seven semesters of major ensemble work and on-campus plus off-campus field experiences connect applied study with classroom practice.
Performance & Productions
•Students perform in the MHU University Choir, Chamber Singers, Opera Workshop, and other departmental ensembles, alongside faculty and guest-artist recitals.
Professional Development
•The program combines music education methods, conducting, vocal technique, and public-school field experience for future choral and general-music teachers.
Value
•MHU’s NASM-accredited Department of Music offers competitive music scholarships, performance grants, and service awards; accepted students must submit FAFSA for consideration.
