Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List

Prepare one piano piece if possible, even at a basic level, plus the requirements for your primary performance area

Brass, strings, and winds: two prepared pieces in contrasting styles, such as etudes or sonata movements

Guitar: two prepared pieces in contrasting styles, such as etudes, studies, or sonata movements

Piano: one piece demonstrating your facility at the piano

Voice: two prepared pieces in contrasting styles, preferably in different languages; one may be from musical theatre repertoire

Scales & Technique

Brass, strings, winds, and guitar applicants prepare major and minor scales

Letters of Recommendation (Required)

Submit two recommendation forms from people familiar with your musical ability and character; evaluators may return the signed form in a sealed envelope, mail it, or email a scan directly to the program director

Questionnaire (Required)

Complete the Music Program Audition/Scholarship Form and bring it to the scheduled audition

Applicants take a basic theory skills test or Theory Placement Exam at the audition

Transfer Pathway

Transfer BME Music Education applicants may bring up to 90 credits from a four-year institution or 74 from a two-year institution, subject to evaluation, and must still complete the published music entrance audition.
