Scholarship Audition, Interview, and Portfolio Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Optional audition, interview, and portfolio for scholarship consideration only; they are not required for program admission.

Songs

Optional (Monologue + Song Format)

16-32 bars of a song

Musical theatre songs strongly recommended

May sing a cappella or provide sheet music in the correct key for accompanist

Monologues

Scholarship Audition (1-3 Minutes Total)

One or two memorized monologues

Choose one format: single monologue, two contrasting monologues, or monologue plus 16-32 bars of a song

Selections should demonstrate artistic and technical abilities

Additional Materials

Portfolio (Required for Design/Tech Scholarship Path)

Present images or drawings of design or technical work (scenery, lighting, costuming, properties) created by the student, or projects designed by another person but constructed by the student

What's The Process

Audition Process

No audition required for program admission

Admission via Common App or Luther Norse Application

Optional for Luther Theatre Scholarships (talent awards)

Two paths: performance audition or design/tech portfolio interview

Followed by an informal one-on-one interview with a theatre faculty member

Auditions happen in a faculty studio, not on stage before a committee

Live auditions strongly preferred; video or PDF portfolio accepted if campus visit is not possible
