Training
•The 120-credit BM is a joint program with LIU's education school and prepares students for New York State Initial Teaching Certification from birth through grade 12
•The Choral specialization uses Secondary Choral Music Methods alongside music-teaching methods, conducting, theory, aural skills, history, applied voice, ensembles, and research-based pedagogy
•The revised curriculum adds a four-course music-technology sequence covering digital production, audio editing, sequencing, recording and sampling, mixing, notation software, and digital-audio workstations
Performance & Productions
•Students take one-to-one studio lessons, participate in ensembles, and can join tours, workshops and master classes
•LIU highlights access to New York-area music professionals and activities tied to Tilles Center for the Performing Arts
Professional Development
•Field-based experiences and PreK–16 partnerships connect coursework to local schools and community music programs
•Students complete a senior recital followed by supervised student teaching and study strategies for urban, inclusive, and special-learner classrooms
•Students can participate in the collegiate National Association for Music Education chapter
