Audition Expectations
•Audition into Applied Lessons (Music 92AD) is required to declare as a music major; it is not required for admission to LBCC
•Each audition is approximately 10 minutes and includes performance, sight-reading, pitch-matching, singing a short melody, and clapping a short rhythm
•The theory/musicianship check covers identifying chord quality and scale type by ear, plus key signatures and intervals in writing
•Incomplete theory/musicianship proficiency does not necessarily prevent admission to Applied Lessons; it may be used for course placement or may delay entry while foundational coursework is completed
•Perform two songs, instrumental excerpts, or short pieces in contrasting styles
•Classical vocalists: preferably two songs, one in English and one in another language (Italian, German, or French)
•Classical instrumentalists: two pieces, excerpts, or movements in contrasting styles
•Classical percussionists: two pieces or excerpts, preferably including mallets and snare or timpani
•Jazz vocalists/instrumentalists: two jazz standards — one medium-to-up-tempo swing with vocal improvisation and one ballad or slow Bossa Nova
•Jazz percussionists: one solo excerpt plus standard jazz beat patterns, including Latin
•An accompanist is provided; bring any necessary copies for the accompanist
