APPLICATION PROCESS
•Apply to LBCC through CCCApply (free to apply)
•Rolling admissions — no application deadline
•Enrollment fee: $46/unit (CA residents) or $414/unit (non-residents)
MUSIC MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
•Complete the audition application form before signing up for an audition time
•Once in the program, co-enrollment in music theory sequence courses is required
•Prior theory coursework from other colleges can be applied to degree requirements
PROGRAM TIMELINE
•Music degree typically completed in 2-3 years
•Two-year minimum due to sequential course requirements
•Any break in theory courses may pause Applied Lessons enrollment
What's The Process
GATEWAY AUDITION
•Audition required to declare as a music major — not required for admission to LBCC
•All students may take general music courses and join ensembles without auditioning
•Audition is for entry into Applied Lessons (Music 92AD)
•Auditions held at the beginning and end of each semester
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
•Perform two songs, instrumental excerpts, or short pieces of contrasting style
•Pitch-matching, singing a short melody, and clapping a short rhythm
•Accompanist provided — bring copies of your music
CLASSICAL VOCALISTS
•Two songs — one in English, one in another language (Italian, German, or French preferred)
CLASSICAL INSTRUMENTALISTS
•Two pieces, excerpts, or movements in contrasting styles
CLASSICAL PERCUSSIONISTS
•Two pieces or excerpts — preferably mallets and snare or timpani
JAZZ VOCALISTS/INSTRUMENTALISTS
•Two jazz standards
-One medium to up-tempo swing with vocal improvisation
-One ballad or slow Bossa Nova
JAZZ PERCUSSIONISTS
•One solo excerpt
•Demonstrate standard jazz beat patterns, including Latin
