Two Contrasting Musical Theatre Songs

Perform with music accompaniment where possible (best reflects vocal and interpretive abilities)

Backing track acceptable if live accompaniment unavailable

Only sing unaccompanied if neither option is accessible

Ensure your voice can be heard above the accompaniment

Submit a personal statement video up to 3 minutes

Introduce yourself

Discuss your relationship to and experience with musical theatre

Explain why you are interested in the course

North America in-person auditions only

Songs performed unaccompanied

No accompanist or pianist available at audition venue

Monologues

Requirements

Two Contemporary Monologues

Alternative: self-devised or choreographed dance/movement piece (max 5 min)

If performing dance piece, bring your own portable music system and speaker

Any gender monologues accepted

Application Logistics

Apply directly to LAMDA via Ellucian portal

No UCAS required for postgraduate courses

MFA recommended over MA if pursuing teaching/directing or wanting extended London residency

If applying to multiple LAMDA courses, email admissions@lamda.ac.uk

Eligibility

Must be 21 or older

Undergraduate degree or relevant professional experience required

Non-native English speakers need IELTS 7.0 (7.0 in each sub-test)

What's The Process

Audition Process

UK/international first round is a self-tape; submit within 14 days of the admissions email

Submit two musical theatre songs with accompaniment where possible plus a 3-minute video introduction

LAMDA may request a dance follow-up self-tape before confirming a recall invitation

UK/international recalls are held in person in London; final recall may carry an extra fee

North America applicants audition in person across the US and Toronto in January-February 2026

North America Musical Theatre recall is in New York City with no additional recall charge

MT-only North America applicants prepare two unaccompanied songs plus either two contemporary monologues or a devised/learned dance or movement piece

Applicants applying for Musical Theatre and Acting prepare one unaccompanied musical theatre song in addition to acting monologues

Decisions

Results are usually shared within 2-3 weeks after recall

Scholarship Info

Financial Support

UK postgraduate master's loans may be available for eligible students

US Federal Direct Loans cover eligible full-time postgraduate courses lasting a year or more

Application and recall fee waivers may be available through the Pathways Programme

Scholarships

LAMDA scholarship support is means-tested and available across cohorts

Leverhulme Arts Scholarships provide full and partial support for incoming degree students

Scholarship application forms are sent to offer holders and require budget information
