Optional audition and interview for scholarship consideration only; they are not required for program admission.

Resume (Required for Scholarship Exam)

Letters of Recommendation (Required for Scholarship Exam)

Email one recommendation from a drama teacher or director to admission@linfield.edu one week before the exam date

Portfolio / Creative Sample (Optional by Focus Area)

Directing, design, technical theatre, arts management, and dramaturgy applicants may bring a promptbook, electronic portfolio, process materials, photographs, publicity materials, or scholarly samples when available

Application Logistics

Apply to Linfield through Common App

Linfield does not charge an undergraduate application fee

Common Application availability begins August 1, with applications accepted beginning September 1

Admission Pathway

Admission to the Theatre Arts major is through the university application process

Students declare Theatre Arts after being admitted to Linfield

Program Requirements

Majors must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA to enroll in practicum courses

Students must earn C- or higher in courses meeting major requirements

Theatre Arts majors are required to usher for at least five performances

Important Notes

Linfield Scholarship and Visit Weekend theatre exams are invitation-only and separate from program admission

Published scholarship exam material requirements have not yet been updated for the next cycle

Transfer Pathway

Linfield's block transfer policy can clear lower-division general education for qualifying associate-transfer degrees, giving BA Theatre Arts transfers a more direct path into major coursework. Theatre major requirements, practicum GPA rules, and upper-division writing still need advisor review.

What's The Process

Audition Process

No audition, prescreen, portfolio, or interview is required for Theatre Arts program admission

Optional, invitation-only Linfield Scholarship and Visit Weekend theatre exams are separate from admission to the major

Audition Expectations

Acting-focused students perform two contrasting audition pieces, combined maximum four minutes

Musical Theatre-focused students prepare one song, optionally including dance, plus one monologue, combined maximum four minutes

Directing, design, technical theatre, arts management, and dramaturgy applicants may present relevant materials when available

Theatre faculty and students interview scholarship applicants after the performance or materials presentation
