Audition Requirements

Songs

Two Contrasting Musical Theatre Songs

Bring sheet music for the piano accompanist (taped or in a folder, avoid songbooks)

Contrasting: legit + contemporary OR ballad + up-tempo

Avoid character songs that require a vocal affectation

Performed in front of the panel and audition group

Mark any cuts on your sheet music clearly so the accompanist knows where to jump

Monologues

Solo Acting Audition

Present the monologue performed in Round 1

Be prepared for redirection from panellists

Dance

Group Dance Class

Taught dance audition including elements of jazz, ballet, and contemporary

Dress in form-fitting dance or sports attire

Wear soft jazz shoes, foot thongs, or go barefoot

Remove jewellery for safety

Sheet Music

Printed sheet music for the piano accompanist, taped or in a folder (no songbooks), with cuts clearly marked

Transfer Pathway

Leeds Conservatoire's official Accreditation of Prior Learning guidance says formally assessed prior learning may be used to join the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre programme at a later stage. The conservatoire assesses the prior learning through its published process.

Audition Process

Upload audition materials via Acceptd after receiving your Leeds Conservatoire ID Number

Invitation to submit is sent after UCAS application is processed

Materials assessed by a panel

Successful applicants invited to Round 2 recall

Full-day event including group dance class, solo singing, solo acting, interview, and campus tour

UK applicants attend in person at Leeds

School-provided piano accompanist for singing audition

Interview: questions about your interest, experience, and knowledge of musical theatre

Decision communicated via UCAS: offer, waiting list, or rejection

Online Recall - International

Applicants outside the UK submit a video portfolio via Acceptd

Second contrasting monologue (max 2 minutes)

Two contrasting songs (at least one from a musical, with piano or backing track)

Dance video: learn and perform a routine from a sent video guide

Interview may be scheduled with the programme leader
