Prescreen Requirements

Monologues

TWO CONTRASTING SPEECHES FROM PUBLISHED PLAY TEXTS

•Maximum two minutes per speech

•Speeches should contrast in style, language, emotion, character, or tone

•Classical verse (Shakespeare, Elizabethan, Jacobean, Greek) provides an immediate contrast with a modern play

•Choose material that suits you and that you enjoy performing

•Know the full source play, not just the excerpt

•Introduce each speech at the beginning of the video or save the title and character in the file name

Material Selection

•Choose a role you can imagine yourself playing

•May use speeches from monologue books, but read the whole play for context

•Self-written material may be submitted as an additional file, but two published-text speeches are still required

•Perform in your native accent unless an accent is essential to the speech

•All speeches must be fully memorised

•Present one or both Round 1 monologues

•Will be given direction from a panellist to demonstrate how you collaborate with a director

•Creative ensemble activities replicating timetabled sessions

•Be prepared to play around with one of your Round 1 monologues

•Can apply for both Acting and Actor Musician: apply for Actor Musician on UCAS and state in your Round 1 introduction that you wish to be considered for both

•Can apply for all three drama courses, but must submit separate UCAS applications and Acceptd submissions for each

Travel Bursaries

•Travel cost refunds available for in-person recall auditions

•Eligible: UK residents from lower-income households (under 25,000 GBP) or Global Majority backgrounds

Audition Process

•Upload audition materials via Acceptd after receiving your Leeds Conservatoire ID Number

•Invitation to submit is sent after UCAS application is processed

•Materials assessed by a panel

•Successful applicants invited to Round 2 recall

•Full-day event including group workshop, solo audition, interview, and campus tour

•UK applicants attend in person at Leeds

•International applicants attend virtually via Zoom

•Group workshop features creative, ensemble-based activities

•Solo audition: present Round 1 monologues with direction from panellists

•Interview: questions about your interest, experience, and knowledge of acting

•Decision communicated via UCAS: offer, waiting list, or rejection
