Essay / Statement

Describe dance, performance, teaching, and/or choreographic experience (250 words maximum)

Describe other relevant activities, employment, or voluntary roles (250 words maximum)

Indicate one or more pathway interests and explain the reason for each choice (150–200 words per pathway)

Answer four short prompts on studying dance, choosing LCDS, course expectations, and post-graduation goals (150 words maximum each)

Recommendation

Provide contact details for one academic referee and one dance-related referee; LCDS contacts them for character references

Application Status

September 2026 entry is closed; LCDS is accepting registrations of interest for September 2027

The linked 2026 application form remains viewable, but its May 2026 workshop options are expired and a 2027 application schedule has not yet been published

Application Logistics

Apply directly through the LCDS course application; UCAS is not required

LCDS does not charge an application or audition fee

When applications are open, submissions are reviewed on a rolling, first-come-first-served basis

Entry Requirements

Three GCSE passes at grade 4 or above

One full Level 3 qualification, such as two A Levels, BTEC Extended Diploma (PPP), UAL Extended Diploma, Access to HE Diploma, International Baccalaureate, or equivalent

IELTS 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component for applicants who need English-language evidence

Transfer Pathway

LCDS offers a small number of applicants direct entry to Year 2 of the BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance course when places are available. Applicants must have completed 120 undergraduate credits, submit evidence including a transcript, and complete the LCDS application and Admission Workshop.

Audition Process

Complete the online application form, selecting a date and location for your workshop

If you meet entry requirements, you will be invited to an Admissions Workshop

Workshop includes creative and improvisation tasks plus a group seminar discussion

No prepared dance piece required

Held in person or online depending on your location

Conducted by faculty during the Admissions Workshop

Interview questions sent in advance so you can prepare

Outcome communicated via email approximately two weeks after the workshop

What We Look for

Ability to engage in creative processes with imagination and resourcefulness

Understanding of dance in its wider context

Potential for development of technical capabilities and performance skills
