Prescreen Requirements

Songs

Vocal / Musical Theatre Submission (Video Pre-Screen)

•Submit 2 separate video files, no more than 32 bars each

•Prepare two contrasting musical theatre songs

•Songs must be memorized

•One selection should come from a musical written before approximately 1970

•Selections should demonstrate contrast in style, character, or emotional quality

•No auto-tune, pitch correction, reverb, chorus effects, rhythm correction, or excessive editing/splicing

Monologues

Acting Submission (Video Pre-Screen)

•Submit 2 separate video files, no more than 90 seconds each

•Prepare two contrasting monologues

•Both must be memorized

•Material must come from a professionally written source

•Selections should demonstrate different aspects of acting ability and fit the applicant's age and experience

Dance

Dance / Movement Submission (Video Pre-Screen)

•1 required video, 30-60 seconds, full body visible throughout

•Second technique video optional (e.g. ballet exercises, technique combinations, additional movement demonstrations)

•Movement should represent the applicant's strengths and experience

Wildcard Video (Optional)

•1 additional video, approximately 60-90 seconds (no more than 90 seconds)

•Share something about yourself not already represented in your application materials — a unique skill, personal passion, creative project, or meaningful experience

•Content is open-ended aside from the time limit

Additional Materials

Slate / Introduction Video (Required)

•1 video, no more than 60 seconds

•State your name and any information you would like faculty to know before viewing your materials

Resume (Required)

•List musical theatre productions, acting experience, vocal training, dance training, workshops/intensives, and special skills

Headshot / Photograph (Required)

•A simple, clear phone photo is acceptable; a formal studio headshot is not required

Cultural Response Video (Required)

•Personal statement covering faith journey, artistic journey, challenges, and goals as an artist

Audition Requirements

Songs

Two Contrasting Musical Theatre Songs

•Prepare two contrasting musical theatre songs (32-bar cut of each)

•Both selections must be memorized

•Accompanist provided for all vocal auditions

•Music must be submitted two weeks prior to audition

•Auditions to a track or a cappella are not accepted

Monologues

Two Contrasting One-Minute Monologues

•One comedic monologue

•One dramatic monologue

•Both must be memorized

Dance

Group Dance Audition

•Dance portion held in a group setting after all vocal and monologue auditions

•Be prepared to demonstrate basic theatre dance ability or potential

•Directions on steps and combinations given in the audition

Attire

•Bring all your dance shoes

•Time provided to change prior to the dance portion

•Wear comfortable clothing that is not too baggy

•If wearing dance tights, bring shorts to wear over top

•Apply to LBC via the online application

•Register for an audition day via Formstack

•Registration closes two weeks prior to each scheduled audition day

Eligibility

•Department admission is separate from college admission

•Formal acceptance into the program voted by MWPA faculty after 42 credits (sophomore year)

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Apply to and be accepted by Lancaster Bible College

•Submit required Musical Theatre video pre-screen materials

•Receive a pre-screen evaluation from Musical Theatre faculty

•Qualified applicants are invited to schedule a live, on-campus audition and interview

•Music Theory Assessment required at the live audition (for course placement)

Audition Expectations

•In-person auditions at Good Shepherd Chapel, 8am to 2pm

•Virtual audition available upon request

•If unable to attend a scheduled day, contact the department to arrange an individual audition

•Tonal quality, pitch perception, and acting ability

•Sight singing and rhythm
