Good to Know

Application Logistics

Apply for admission to La Sierra University first via Common App or the La Sierra application.

Then submit the Music Major/Performance Certificate Application (Google Form) to the Department of Music.

Incoming freshmen who participated in the Promising Young Artist Scholarship Competition do not need an entrance audition.

Admission Pathway

All incoming music majors and minors take the online Music Theory Placement Exam for course placement, not admission.

Exam registration opens the second week of January and closes at the end of June; a new section runs from July through December.

The placement exam costs $10.

Music majors audition for ensemble placement after enrolling; wind, percussion, and string auditions also receive chair placement.

Transfer Pathway

La Sierra maps the Music AA-T Associate Degree for Transfer directly to the BA Music program. Admitted ADT students receive at least 60 semester/90 quarter transfer credits and enter at junior standing; department admission still requires the music major application and an acceptable audition.

Audition Process

Admission to the BA Music major depends on an acceptable audition demonstrating musical and technical ability.

Local students are expected to audition in person; others may submit a good-quality video recording.

The same audition is used for music scholarship consideration.
