Training
•Curriculum spans choreography, dance history, kinesiology, Labanotation and screendance
•Dance Labanotation develops movement-reading and notation skills; course work may meet Dance Notation Bureau standards for beginning certification
•Six dance technique courses are required
•One semester of either DDF 300 Technical Practicum or DDF 301 Performance Practicum is required
Performance & Productions
•Fall and spring dance concerts feature original choreography by faculty and students
•Auditions to dance in either concert are held at the beginning of each semester
•Dance faculty select student choreography proposals, with priority given to dance majors and minors
•Shaffer Dance Studio supports the department's dance training and performance work
Professional Development
•Senior majors develop a major creative or scholarly project with faculty guidance
•The capstone includes an oral discussion of the project and a six-hour written examination
•Distinction is based on performance across the project, oral discussion and written examination
Degree Flexibility
•Up to two approved off-campus-study courses may count toward the major
•Select theater-arts courses may count with the required prerequisites or instructor permission
•Screendance and Union of Music and Dance provide interdisciplinary options
•Kenyon L.A. is a selective two-week program for rising juniors and seniors combining screenwriting with entertainment-industry career exploration
