Labanotation courses — a specialized movement notation system rarely offered at the undergraduate level
Screendance course combining dance and film
Union of Music and Dance course exploring interdisciplinary connections
PERFORMANCE & PRODUCTIONS
Fall and spring major dance concerts featuring original choreography by faculty and students
Shaffer Dance Studio as dedicated home for dance students
Curriculum spans choreography, dance history, kinesiology, Labanotation and screendance
Both technical practicum and performance practicum required
Six dance technique courses required, repeatable for credit
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Major creative or scholarly project developed with faculty guidance
Oral discussion of the project with department faculty
Six-hour written examination
Distinction awarded based on performance across all three components
DEGREE FLEXIBILITY
Liberal arts approach — courses open to all students in the college
Up to two off-campus study courses accepted toward the major
Kenyon L.A. — selective two-week immersion in the entertainment industry for rising juniors and seniors
