Audition Process
•Prescreening is required only for applicants currently residing outside the US and Canada, regardless of citizenship
•Prescreening is optional for residents of Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, or Canada
•Continental US residents do not prescreen; apply by December 2 and register directly for in-person audition
•Prescreening takes place live on Zoom, not as recorded video
•2025 prescreen dates for fall 2026 entry: November 15, 16, 22, 23
•Favorable prescreen result is required before registering for in-person audition if prescreening applies
•NYC first- and second-round callbacks can occur the same day
•Chicago/San Francisco callback lists are posted throughout the day; end-of-day callback may follow
•About 50 finalists are invited to the 4-day callback weekend in New York City, March 12-15
•Limited travel stipends may be available for callback weekend applicants with high financial need
Audition Expectations
•Locations: New York City, San Francisco, Chicago
•Group warm-up and orientation before audition
•Audition alone before Drama Division faculty panel
•Present 1 heightened text monologue and 1 contemporary monologue
•Wear comfortable clothing allowing freedom of movement
•May bring simple hand props such as a water bottle, scarf, phone, paper, or handbag
•Callback work may include repeated monologues, additional monologues, a cappella singing, cold readings, group exercises, improvisations, and faculty interview
