•Intensive BFA program at the Peabody Conservatory, part of Johns Hopkins University

•Training in modern, contemporary ballet, African Expressions, improvisation, and more

•Curriculum blends studio instruction with dance science and social justice perspectives

PERFORMANCE & PRODUCTIONS

•Perform during all four years of the program

•Peabody Dance Ensemble: award-winning pre-professional company for 4th-year students

•Ensemble performs in annual concerts, festivals, conferences, and community residencies

•Guest artist residencies with master dance artists creating original and repertory works

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

•Capstone Dance Project: independent research culminating in a self-produced concert, dance film, lecture, or panel discussion

•Apprenticeships and internships with professional dance companies, choreographers, studios, and arts organizations

STUDY ABROAD

•Summer study abroad opportunities including dance intensive at ICK Amsterdam

•Submit email addresses for three people who can speak to your performance ability

•Recommenders submit letters electronically after receiving Peabody instructions

Transcripts

•Official high school and college transcripts, if applicable, must be submitted directly to Peabody

•Unofficial transcripts may be uploaded during the application process

Essay

•One to two pages responding to one of the Peabody undergraduate prompts

•Dance applicants may describe their most memorable dance experience

•Optional separate essay may address lived experience, obstacles, or academic context

APPLICATION LOGISTICS

•Apply through the Peabody application portal

•Peabody application fee is $120; fee waiver requests can be emailed to peabodyadmissions@jhu.edu

•After submission, the application itself cannot be changed, but portfolio materials can be edited through the application status portal

•Application, fee, and undergraduate essay deadlines: Early Decision November 1, Regular Decision December 1, Late Admission May 1

•Recorded audition deadlines: Early Decision December 1, Regular Decision February 1, Late Admission May 10

ADMISSION PATHWAY

•Spring Admission is available for Dance only; application is due November 1 and recordings must be submitted with the application

•Double Degree applicants must answer yes to the Double Degree application question

•Double Degree applicants must also apply to Johns Hopkins through the Common App or Coalition App

•Only one application fee is required

•Applicants not admitted to the Double Degree program are automatically considered for the Directed Studies Minor

IMPORTANT NOTES

•FAFSA and CSS Profile are required for need-based aid consideration

•Need-based aid deadlines: Early Decision November 15, Regular Decision January 15, Late Admission April 1

What's The Process

AUDITION PROCESS

•No prescreening requirement for Dance

•Applicants may complete a live on-campus audition or, when eligible, submit a recorded audition

•In-person auditions are strongly recommended

•Recorded-audition applicants do not hear from Peabody until decisions are released

AUDITION EXPECTATIONS

•Live auditions take place over two days during Peabody Audition Week

•Day 1 includes a master class with Dance Chair danah bella and the annual Peabody Dance Ensemble concert

•Day 2 includes the group audition and prepared solo

•Regular Decision Dance auditions are scheduled February 21-23, 2026; February 21 is optional pre-audition events and February 23 is an overflow date

•Audition recordings must be video and performed without editing

•Applicants may upload one file or multiple files, as long as each piece or movement is unedited

•Upload recordings with the application or to the Portfolio section after submitting the application

•Spring Admission recordings must be submitted with the application
