Audition Requirements
Monologues
TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES, 2 min each
•One dramatic and one comedic, OR one classical and one contemporary
•Contrast can be demonstrated through type of character and material
•Look for contrasts in mood, intention, rhythm, emotional level, and content
MATERIAL SELECTION
•Seek roles in your own maturity and emotional range
•Choose pieces that maximize your assets and minimize weaknesses
•Avoid climactic material requiring great depth of emotion — not enough time to achieve peaks honestly
•Choose material where your character is actively overcoming obstacles
•Both selections should be self-explanatory with clear beginning, middle, and end
WHAT TO AVOID
•Dull or passive pieces dwelling on character or plot exposition
•Internal or inner-directed soliloquies — monologues directed to another character are more effective
PRESENTATION
•State your name and the character/play title before each piece
Wildcard / Special Skill
