Eligibility

University admission required before scheduling an audition

Teacher Certification

Candidates complete IUP's Three-Step Process for Teacher Education to earn K-12 certification (a post-enrollment academic progression, not an admission requirement)

Placement

Admitted students complete music theory and aural-skills placement at orientation for course placement only — it does not affect admission

Scholarships

All music majors are eligible for music scholarships determined by the audition

What's The Process

Audition Process

Step 1: Apply to IUP and be accepted academically

Step 2: Register for an on-campus audition via the IUP audition portal

A satisfactory audition on the primary instrument or voice is required (auditions are in person)

Prepare your area's standard audition repertoire (see the relevant area requirements)

Percussion applicants follow the Music Education BSEd percussion requirements (concert snare required; rudimental optional; two-mallet keyboard required, four-mallet optional; fundamental timpani skills)

Piano Placement Test

Students with prior piano study complete a brief piano placement test as part of the audition
