Monologues
TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES, 3 min combined max
•From published plays, memorized
•Select age-appropriate roles in your own emotional range
•Contrast can be demonstrated through type of character and material (serious/comedic, contemporary/classical, urban/rural)
MATERIAL SELECTION
•Avoid excessively stylized pieces, dialects, extreme physicality, and props
•You are not expected to do a classical piece but may choose to
•Select material you are familiar and comfortable with
PRESENTATION
•No props or costumes except items you would normally carry (eyeglasses, handkerchief, etc.)
•Wear comfortable clothes that permit ease of movement
•Avoid hairstyles that hide your features
•Speak in an articulate, clear voice
