Audition Requirements
Songs
TWO CONTRASTING VOCAL SELECTIONS, 32 bars each
•ONE BALLAD
•ONE UP-TEMPO
•One selection must be written prior to 1970
ACCOMPANIMENT
•Accompanist provided for in-person auditions
•For remote auditions, use recorded instrumental tracks or record with your own accompanist
•No a cappella singing
PREPARATION
•Sheet music in a binder or folder with fewest page turns
•Provide the name, composer, and key signature, plus the name of the book or anthology (not required for remote auditions)
Monologues
ONE CONTEMPORARY MONOLOGUE, approx. 1 min
•Age-appropriate selection from a contemporary American script
Dance
DANCE DIAGNOSTIC
•Diagnostic audition held during your first semester at IUP if necessary
•No dance component at the initial audition

ADMISSION PROCESS
•Step 1: Apply and be accepted to IUP
•Step 2: Schedule an audition via the IUP audition portal
•Musical Theatre majors receive a message from Admissions directing them to register
ENROLLMENT
•Fall enrollment available
•Students not admitted to the Musical Theatre track may declare a BA Theatre major instead
What's The Process
AUDITION FORMAT
•In-person auditions on scheduled Experience IUP: Fine Arts Audition/Portfolio Days
•Three components: singing, acting, and (deferred) dance diagnostic
VIRTUAL OPTION
•Zoom auditions arranged on the same dates as in-person auditions
•Video-recorded auditions also accepted — send YouTube or Vimeo links to cjcole@iup.edu
•Follow-up Zoom interview scheduled after video review
DEFERRAL OPTION
•You may defer your audition until your first year and enter the music curriculum in the second year
•Theatre and dance courses apply to either degree path
SCHOLARSHIP & ACCEPTANCE
•Decisions made on a rolling basis, usually within one week
•In-person and virtual auditions receive equal consideration
