A song you enjoy singing and can sing well

Guidance

Choose a song that shows vocal and performance ability suitable for your casting and voice type

Any gender song permitted

Avoid songs requiring extreme character voices

Demonstrate skill in acting as well as singing

Recording must reflect your acoustic singing voice with no audio editing or effects

Monologues

Contemporary speech from a modern play (1970-present day)

Material Guidance

Must be from a published play (not poems, novels, films, or TV scripts)

Choose a character close to your own age

Perform in your native accent

Any gender speech permitted

Dance

Set Exercises + Solo

Kicks and Pirouette Combination: Learn and record from the provided video

Two MT Songs, 90 Sec Max Each

One Golden Age lyrical song (pre-1965)

Suggested: Rodgers and Hammerstein, Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Learner and Loewe, Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Weill, Jerome Kern, Frank Loesser

One traditional or contemporary MT song (post-1965)

Suggested: Stephen Schwartz, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Alan Menken, Jason Robert Brown, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Kander and Ebb

Guidance

Prepare clearly marked sheet music for the audition pianist

Choose songs suitable for your casting and voice type

Monologues

Recall Acting

Speech 1: contemporary speech from a modern play (1970-present day), max 1 min 30 sec

Speech 2: a contrasting speech; may be a classical speech or another contemporary speech that contrasts with speech 1

You do not need to prepare new speeches unless asked; you may use the same material as your self-tape or prepare new material

Dance

Recall Dance Audition

Perform your first-round dance solo

Ballet class: barre work, centre work (adage and pirouettes), then allegro (small or big jumps)

Jazz tech and performance class: short warm-up, corner work (travelling, turns, kicks and leaps), then a short routine focused on style, dynamic range, performance and theatricality

Contemporary class

Attire

Ballet: plain black leotard, skin-coloured or black tights and ballet shoes (pointe shoes not required); hair neat and off the face; no jewellery or watches

If you do not own dancewear, tight-fitting clothing and bare feet will be fine

Jazz: jazz shoes and trainers suitable for dance (no Converse or similar fashion shoes); no loose clothing

Good to Know

Application Logistics

Apply directly through Italia Conti; applicants cannot apply through UCAS

The application form requires a written statement, photograph, and the non-refundable audition fee

The application deadline is 28 February 2027; late applications may be accepted on a case-by-case basis

Places are limited and acceptances are handled on a first-come, first-served basis, so early acceptance is advised

Eligibility

Age 18+ by 31 August in year of entry (17+ from Scotland)

GCSE Grade 4+ in English and Maths (or equivalent)

64 UCAS points or non-standard entry assessed at audition

IELTS Level 6 for non-native English speakers

UK residency/study rights required for full programme

Italia Conti cannot currently accept on-campus applications from international or EU students; applicants who meet its Home status criteria may still be eligible

Enrollment

September start only

£275 deposit required upon acceptance; refundable within 14 days of payment, then held against outstanding balances and normally returned after course completion

What's The Process

Audition Process

Submit a self-tape video after completing the application form

An audition pack with recording and submission guidance is emailed after you apply

Results within 4 weeks of submission

A minority of applicants may be asked for a further tape or live-online audition responding to direction or feedback

Successful applicants are invited to a recall day at the Woking campus

Applicants may indicate interest in other courses (e.g., BA Dance, BA Acting (Musical Theatre))

Applicants who also want to be considered for the Dance courses are asked to submit the ballet exercises from the first-round dance audition brief

All applicants automatically considered for one-year CertHE foundation courses

Audition Expectations

Recall includes a panel audition focusing on singing and acting, a short interview, and a dance audition covering ballet, jazz and musical theatre performance

Live-online recall is offered only to international students and students who require reasonable adjustments

Scholarship Info

Scholarships

Merit-based scholarships are awarded based on audition outcome; no separate scholarship application is needed

The Stage Scholarship is a full scholarship awarded each year to a high-performing auditionee on one of the four main strands of study

The Noel Coward Scholarships, announced in 2026, are full scholarships awarded to a high-performing auditionee on each of the four main strands of study

Bursaries

Bursaries are awarded on financial need rather than audition performance
