Audition Requirements

Dance

Recall Classes

Ballet class: barre work, centre work (adage and pirouettes), then allegro (small or big jumps)

Contemporary class: sequences and phrases, then exploration into retention of choreography and performance skills

Jazz tech and performance class: short warm-up, corner work (travelling, turns, kicks and leaps), then a short routine focused on style, dynamic range, performance and theatricality

Solo Performance

Perform your first-round dance solo; you may prepare new material if you would like to

Attire

Ballet: plain black leotard, skin-coloured or black tights and ballet shoes (pointe shoes not required); hair neat and off the face; no jewellery or watches

Jazz: jazz shoes and trainers suitable for dance (no Converse or similar fashion shoes); no loose clothing

Contemporary: split sole jazz shoes or ballet shoes; no loose clothing

Good to Know

Application Logistics

Apply directly through Italia Conti; applicants cannot apply through UCAS

The application form requires a written statement, photograph, and the non-refundable audition fee

The application deadline is 28 February 2027; late applications may be accepted on a case-by-case basis

Places are limited and acceptances are handled on a first-come, first-served basis, so early acceptance is advised

Eligibility

Age 18+ by 31 August in year of entry (17+ from Scotland)

GCSE Grade 4+ in English and Maths (or equivalent)

64 UCAS points or non-standard entry assessed at audition

IELTS Level 6 for non-native English speakers

UK residency/study rights required for full programme

Italia Conti cannot currently accept on-campus applications from international or EU students; applicants who meet its Home status criteria may still be eligible

Enrollment

September start only

£275 deposit required upon acceptance; refundable within 14 days of payment, then held against outstanding balances and normally returned after course completion

Applicants may indicate interest in BA (Hons) Musical Theatre

Applicants are automatically considered for the corresponding CertHE course

What's The Process

Audition Process

Submit the required ballet exercise, jazz combination, and solo dance videos, compiled into one video, after completing the application form

An audition pack with recording and submission guidance is emailed after you apply

Results are normally issued within 4 weeks of submission

A minority of applicants may be asked for a further tape or live-online audition responding to direction or feedback

Successful applicants are invited to an in-person recall at the Woking campus

Applicants who also want to be considered for the Musical Theatre courses are asked to submit the singing and acting elements from the first-round musical theatre audition brief

Audition Expectations

Recall includes your first-round solo, ballet, contemporary, and jazz tech and performance classes, and an interview

Live-online recall is offered only to international students and students who require reasonable adjustments

Scholarship Info

Scholarships

Merit-based scholarships are awarded based on audition outcome; no separate scholarship application is needed

The Stage Scholarship is a full scholarship awarded each year to a high-performing auditionee on one of the four main strands of study

The Noel Coward Scholarships, announced in 2026, are full scholarships awarded to a high-performing auditionee on each of the four main strands of study

Bursaries

Bursaries are awarded on financial need rather than audition performance
