Application Logistics
•Apply to University of Iowa and indicate "Music (Interest)" as area of study
•After university admission, complete the School of Music application via the MyUI portal
•February 1, 2027 — all undergraduate music applications must be submitted
Program Structure
•Choose between the Clinical and Performance tracks within the major
•Earn a grade of C+ or higher in Orientation to Music Therapy (MUS:1687) to continue in music therapy coursework
•Clinical observation begins in the junior/senior years, culminating in a six-month internship at an approved site
Placement
•Admitted students complete an online music theory diagnostic and a piano proficiency exam at entry — for course placement only, not admission
