Dance Supplemental Application required after university admission (accessed via MyUI)

Select "Dance BA" on university application even if pursuing BFA

Indicate BFA interest on supplemental application

Priority registration deadlines to attend Hawkeye Dance Day: November 6, 2026 (fall) and February 19, 2027 (spring)

Enrollment

All BFA applicants must also complete ballet and contemporary placement assessment

Video option: learn and perform provided combinations from teaching video

In-person option: take classes at Hawkeye Dance Day

Program Requirements

Must maintain cumulative 3.50 GPA in dance courses

Transfer Pathway

Iowa publishes Dance Transfer Tips for BA/BFA transfer students: transfer applicants complete the Dance Supplemental Application, use the online equivalency guide, and Dance course equivalencies are reviewed by the department. BFA applicants also complete the BFA audition/solo and placement assessment by video or at Hawkeye Dance Day.

What's The Process

Audition Process

Selective admission — audition required for BFA

Two audition options: submit solo video on supplemental application OR perform in person at Hawkeye Dance Day

Conditional admission possible for first semester; regular status determined through internal review in second semester

Students in BA program may also apply for BFA admission during second semester of second year

Results communicated following assessment

Hawkeye Dance Day Format

Group warm-up, contemporary class with improvisation, ballet class

BFA solos performed 12:30-1:00pm

Faculty and student choreography showcase

Q&A session with current students and faculty

Attire

Comfortable, form-fitting dancewear (leotard, tights, leggings)

Ballet shoes for ballet class, barefoot or socks for contemporary

Hair securely pulled away from face

Scholarship Info

ICA Scholarship Awards up to $5,000 for first year of study

BFA applicants automatically considered for scholarships through audition

No separate scholarship application required
