•Any style of dance that shows you at your best
•Submit by video on supplemental application or perform live at Hawkeye Dance Day

PLACEMENT ASSESSMENT
•Required for all BFA applicants
•Learn and perform provided ballet and contemporary combinations
•Teaching video with professor explanation and student demonstration available online
•May use provided music or choose your own
•Alternative: be assessed in person at Hawkeye Dance Day

•Dance Supplemental Application required after university admission (accessed via MyUI)
•Select "Dance BA" on university application even if pursuing BFA

HAWKEYE DANCE DAY DATES
•Fall: October 17, 2025
•Spring: February 13, 2026
•Priority registration deadlines: October 10 (fall) and February 6 (spring)
ATTIRE
•Comfortable, form-fitting dancewear (leotard, tights, leggings)
•Ballet shoes for ballet class, barefoot or socks for contemporary
•Hair securely pulled away from face
IMPORTANT DATES
•January 30, 2026 — Priority deadline for scholarship consideration by video
•May 1, 2026 — Final application deadline

What's The Process
ADMISSION PROCESS
•Selective admission — audition required for BFA
•Two audition options: submit solo video on supplemental application OR perform in person at Hawkeye Dance Day
•Conditional admission possible for first semester; regular status determined through internal review in second semester
•Students in BA program may also apply for BFA admission during second semester of second year
PLACEMENT ASSESSMENT
•All BFA applicants must also complete ballet and contemporary placement assessment
•Video option: learn and perform provided combinations from teaching video
•In-person option: take classes at Hawkeye Dance Day
HAWKEYE DANCE DAY FORMAT
•Group warm-up, contemporary class with improvisation, ballet class
•BFA solos performed 12:30-1:00pm
•Faculty and student choreography showcase
•Q&A session with current students and faculty
SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION
•BFA applicants automatically considered for ICA Scholarship Awards (up to $5,000)
•Results communicated following assessment
