Application Logistics
•Bullet: Apply to University of Iowa and indicate "Music (Interest)" as area of study
•Bullet: After university admission, complete the School of Music application via the MyUI portal
•Bullet: All undergraduate enrollments require School of Music approval
•Bullet: February 1, 2027 — all undergraduate music applications must be submitted
•Bullet: For first-year university admission, Early Action is optional; Regular Admission is also available. Selecting Early Action is not what unlocks the MyUI Music application.
•Bullet: University acceptance is required before the Music application becomes available. Allow time for admission and complete the Music application by February 1, 2027; the university Regular Admission deadline on that same date does not guarantee access in time.
Eligibility
•Bullet: Transfer applicants: Iowa's general transfer deadline is later than the School of Music's application deadline, and Iowa does not say when transfers must apply to meet it. Apply early enough to be admitted and submit the School of Music application by its deadline, and confirm transfer timing with the School of Music
Admission Pathway
•Bullet: Optional focused tracks: Chamber Music (Piano), Chamber Music (Strings/Winds), Jazz, Music Theory, Musicology, and Pedagogy (Piano)
•Bullet: At least 64 semester hours must be earned outside the School of Music
•Bullet: Admitted students complete an online music theory diagnostic and a piano proficiency exam at entry — for course placement only, not admission
