Application Logistics
•Apply to University of Iowa and indicate "Music (Interest)" as area of study
•After university admission, complete the School of Music application via the MyUI portal
•February 1, 2027 — all undergraduate music applications must be submitted
Direct Admission
•Freshmen with a 3.0+ high school GPA who are accepted into a music studio can be directly admitted to the BA in Music Education
•Transfer applicants (30+ credit hours) apply after completing the 10-hour pre-admission school field experience
Degree Structure
•Students earn both a Bachelor of Music (College of Liberal Arts & Sciences) and a BA in Music Education (College of Education)
•Requires admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP); maintain a 2.7 GPA after TEP admission
Placement
•Admitted students complete an online music theory diagnostic and a piano proficiency exam at entry — for course placement only, not admission
