Application Logistics
•Apply to University of Iowa and indicate "Music (Interest)" as area of study
•After university admission, complete the School of Music application via the MyUI portal
•All undergraduate enrollments require School of Music approval
•February 1, 2027 — all undergraduate music applications must be submitted
Program Structure
•Optional focused tracks: Chamber Music (Piano), Chamber Music (Strings/Winds), Jazz, Music Theory, Musicology, and Pedagogy (Piano)
•At least 64 semester hours must be earned outside the School of Music
Placement
•Admitted students complete an online music theory diagnostic and a piano proficiency exam at entry — for course placement only, not admission
