Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Letters of Recommendation

•Required: submit three recommendation forms from former or current music teachers, music directors, or other musicians who can verify readiness to study music at the collegiate level

•Recommendation forms may be returned to music-recruit@indwes.edu or mailed to the IWU Division of Music

Application Logistics

•Submit music scholarship application via IWU admissions portal

•University application via Common App or IWU website

•Auditions must be completed by March 1 for scholarship consideration

•Scholarship awards are made as close to March 15 as possible

Eligibility

•Music theory placement exam is used to demonstrate academic readiness for the major; students who are not ready may complete MUS-160 with a grade of C or above

•Provisional music major status may be granted when requirements are not fully met initially

•Upper-divisional Hearing is required before upper-level studies

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

•Performance readiness is proven by a live audition before music faculty or by submitting a video recording

•Two pieces in contrasting styles performed in your applied area

•One additional piece may be performed in a second applied area

•No taped accompaniments; an accompanist will be provided if needed

•Recorded auditions may be submitted by applicants who live more than 300 miles from Marion

•To submit a video audition, post it to YouTube as public or unlisted and email the link to music-recruit@indwes.edu

Scholarship Info

Music Scholarships

•Available to full-time music majors with B (3.0 GPA) average and satisfactory audition

•Scholarship awards are made as close to March 15 as possible

•Upperclassmen may audition in spring with 3.2 GPA in music courses, 2.75 overall GPA, and no grade below C

Named Scholarships

•Multiple named scholarships available based on performance excellence, financial need, career goals, and Christian character

•Includes awards for vocal, instrumental, ministry, music education, and related music students
