Audition Process
•Music Education applicants complete the School of Music admission audition on their principal instrument or voice
•Live on-campus audition strongly preferred; a recorded performance (mp3, video, or other digital media) is accepted for conditional admission when an in-person visit is not possible
Audition Requirements by Area
•Voice — a classical solo performed from memory at the level of Group 1 (Indiana State Solo Contest List)
•Strings — two contrasting solos, major scales in three octaves, and sight reading
•Woodwind or Brass — a solo, major scales demonstrating range and articulation, and sight reading
•Percussion — snare solo with rudiments (1-13), a mallet solo with major scales, proficiency in timpani/multiple percussion/drum set, and sight reading
•Piano — repertoire per the School of Music piano audition guidelines
Theory & Sight Reading
•At the audition, applicants complete a brief examination in rhythmic/melodic sight reading and music theory (major and minor key signatures) — used for placement, not a separate admission gate.
