Audition Requirements

Accompaniment

No accompanist is needed for instrumental auditions

Vocalists may bring an accompanist or use the provided staff pianist (original or three-ring-binder copy; no CD or a cappella)

Application Logistics

Apply to the University of Idaho, then complete the LHSOM audition form (Qualtrics)

Select whether to attend Audition Day or schedule a virtual audition on the form

Submit a separate audition for each instrument if auditioning on more than one

Important Notes

Audition by Feb. 20, 2027 for priority scholarship consideration (3.0 GPA)

Admitted students take theory, aural-skills and piano placement exams at orientation — for course placement only, not admission

LHSOM provides transfer advising and typically accepts music credits from NASM-accredited institutions; BM Music Business applicants still follow the school’s placement and audition process.

Audition Process

In-person on campus (Audition Day: Jan. 30, 2027)

Private Zoom audition with faculty

Recorded video audition via YouTube (email link to music@uidaho.edu)

Audition Expectations

Admission requires an audition on your primary instrument or voice — the same audition all BMus applicants complete

Prepare selections that demonstrate your technical ability and musicianship

Decisions

Admission letter within 2 weeks of auditioning

First round scholarship awards by March 31

Audition places you in consideration for over 130 music scholarships

All LHSOM scholarships are four-year awards — provided you make progress toward a music degree, perform in ensembles and maintain academic standards

Priority scholarship consideration for auditions by Feb. 21 with a 3.0 GPA
